If you're a Twitter user and are somewhat invested in the Johnny Depp case, you know Q. Only known by her profile photo of Morticia Adams, Q's Twitter combines her signature bitingly sarcastic, witty style with a deep passion for the truth (and an incredibly high bullshit filter). Seen by many as one of the "leaders" of the Justice for Johnny Depp movement, and by Amber and her legal team as a "paid bot", Q has inspired and educated me greatly in my understanding of this case, which is why I am so honored to have her kicking off this interview series. I hope you read this and are able to see a little peak behind the curtain at the human behind the tweets.
Isabella: Thank you so much for doing this, I am so honored to be talking to someone who really impacted my understanding of this case. Would you like to introduce yourself?
Q: Thank you so much for the kind words, I really appreciate that and glad I could help your understanding of the case! My name is Q, I’m a filmmaker and I live in Los Angeles. That’s about all I’m willing to say.
Isabella: How did you first hear about the case, and Johnny Depp in general? What were your thoughts, and whose side did you take?
Q: Well, I’ve known about Johnny Depp for a long time, since I love film and ultimately became a filmmaker. I first heard about the case along with everyone else in 2016. My very first thoughts were shock and horror, but as I settled down and looked at the photos that were released at that time a little more closely, I pretty quickly came to the conclusion that she was lying. Coming from a family full of medical experts, (one of whom has recently joined us on twitter lol) something didn’t smell, or look, right about what she was saying, and the traveling “bruises” with perfect iPhone symmetry didn’t help either.
Isabella: What inspired you to spread awareness of this case? Do you think before typing a tweet or just let it flow? How do you use your Twitter as a tool?
Q: A lot of things inspired me, it’s hard to nail it down to one succinct thought. First of all, I despise liars, and it’s wholly obvious that Amber Heard is lying about everything and that needs to be exposed. Also on some level, I just felt really bad for Johnny and what was happening and to be frank just felt like yelling about it. Twitter seemed like the best place to do that. My tweets are a mixed bag haha, sometimes I think them through pretty carefully but other times I definitely just let ‘er rip. As far as using it as a tool, I never really thought of it that way. I just say what I want to say and if people like it then that’s great. I didn’t come into it with any type of agenda other than to share my thoughts and spread awareness of what’s going on. I suppose now it has turned into the main source of information and sharing of information since the media refuses to report fairly on the situation. So in that regard it’s been great to see so many viral tweets get going and watch people wake up with the audio releases and all that.
Isabella: How do you feel about being known by the #JusticeforJohnnyDepp movement as one of the leaders?
Q: That’s definitely not a title I feel like I deserve or should be thrust upon anyone. Everyone who is there is contributing something of priceless value, their time. Everyone is helping to spread tweets and spread awareness and spread the facts. If we didn’t have so many participants then the community wouldn’t be anywhere near what it is now in terms of the ability to fact check and get news out. That’s an all out effort by everyone.
Isabella: In this case, what do you believe is the most important aspect/the aspect that resonates with you the most in this case? (media manipulation, lack of justice in the system, awareness for male victims of domestic abuse, etc)
Q: The most important thing is the inability of the media to be objective. It’s a shame to watch an institution that was at one time so highly regarded for reporting news around the world turn into a dumpster fire of lies, propaganda, and narrative pushing. Lack of justice goes hand in hand with this, in my opinion. I think there are some heavy biases being peddled by the press and it’s permeating every aspect of life because of them.
Isabella: Do you feel like being a part of the film industry gives you a unique perspective as to the inner workings of this case?
Q: Yes, for sure.
Isabella: If you could say anything to people who are not convinced of Johnny’s innocence, believe Amber is not abusive, or still cling to a “mutual abuse” narrative, what would it be?
Q: Number one; listen to the tapes in full. Number two; read her lengthy claims in full and then look at her photos and behavior in the aftermath of those claims.
Isabella: Do you have a favorite Johnny Depp film/role?
Q: My favorite film of his is Sleepy Hollow.
You can find more of Q on Twitter
